The Gambia’s Modou Barrow has been voted Swansea City’s young player of the year 2016 at the club’s end of year annual awards dinner, where the stand-out performers of the season for the Swans were announced by the club’s supporters trust in a sold-out event.

Barrow who joined the Wales outfit in the summer 2014 from Swedish club Östersunds FK, picked up the young player award following some brilliant performances in the second half of the season upon his return from a short loan spell with Blackburn Rovers. The Gambian speedster has since enhanced his reputation as an impressive talent with some captivating performances including a stunning first Premier League goal at Bournemouth in March which made him the first Gambian to ever score in the English top flight division.

The 23 year old forward made six starts for the Wales club this season with fifteen subs appearances, often a times making immediate and positive impacts when called upon, providing some key assist in the business end of the season including Ki-Sung Yeung’s goal in last weekend’s win over West Ham United.

Both Barrow and Swansea City had a difficult start to the season, however since the appointment of Italian coach Francesco Guodilin in January as Gary Monk’s replacement, both him and the club’s season escalated, with the Swans who were in the relegation battle at the time gaining some needed momentum to move away from the bottom of the table with some important victories and are now destined for a top ten finish. Mr Barrow could also not have a better end to the season and hopefully this could be the start of things to come in his career at Swansea city.

The star shared his joy about the accolade when he tweeted “Buzzing to win Young Player of the Year at the awards yesterday. Thanks to everyone for the support this season!”
